Gyudon is one of the most popular Japanese fast food. It's fast, cheap, and delicious.
Because of that, many people, especially male workers, have it as lunch and also as dinner.

However, it turned difficult for Japanese people to enjoy gyudon because of BSE problem. Gyudon stores became unable to make gyudon because they couldn't import American beef any more.
To break the situation, the stores devised new menus. A company started selling butadon, using pork instead of beef. Another company made a variety in gyudon in trying to use less beef they got left.

Since Yoshinoya, the traditional Gyudon store, started serving gyudon again in limited hours in 2006, there was the news that a lot of people made a line to have it. It's happy news for Japanese people that gyudon is getting more and more available now.
